Why this lethal relentlessness?
What is the objective of the world authorities in destroying people's health, both in industrialized countries and in the Third World? It is always difficult to presume the intentions of others, particularly when one is not close to them. And this is true in this instance. But there are certainly advantages for someone, somewhere, to so doggedly keep-up the campaign for vaccinations, by any and all means possible. They must profit someone, somewhere. One thing is certain. It is not to our advantage. In order to determine what these advantages are, and for whom, let us stop and look at the CONSEQUENCES of these massive vaccination programs and draw our own conclusions.
I. Vaccination is expensive and represents a cost of one billion dollars annually. It therefore benefits the industry; most notably, the multinational manufacturers. One sells the vaccines. The other then provides the arsenal of medications to respond to the numerous complications that follow. Their profits increase while our expenses go through the roof. To the point where we have simply had it up to here and are ready to accept the unacceptable, such as socialized medicine in the United States, for example.

2. Vaccination stimulates the immune system, the body's defense mechanism. Repeated, vaccination exhausts the immune system. It gives a false sense of security and, in doing so, it opens the door wide to all kinds of illnesses. Notably, to those related to AIDS, which can only develop on ripe ground, where the immune system has been disturbed. It causes AIDS to explode. It ensures that the illness flourishes perpetually.

3. Vaccination leads to social violence and crime. What better way to destabilize a country than to disarm its inhabitants, and reinforce police and military control? The authorities subtly create situations of panic and fear among the population which, in turn, necessitate the reinforcement of protection measures", including forbidding citizens from owning weapons. The authorities then come across as saviors and strengthen their control. It is certain that, in order to impose a single world army, one must first disarm the citizens of every country. One must therefore create violence, if they are to achieve this disarmament, particularly in the United States where the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constitution.
4. Vaccination encourages medical dependence and reinforces belief in the inefficiency of the body. It creates people who need permanent assistance. It replaces the confidence one has in oneself with a blind confidence in others, outside ourselves. It leads to loss of personal dignity, in addition to making us financially dependent. It draws us into the vicious circle of sickness (fear - poverty - submission) and, in this way, ensures the submission of the herd so as to better dominate and exploit it. And then lead them to the abattoir. To slaughter. Vaccination also encourages the moral and financial dependence of Third World countries. It perpetuates the social and economic control of Western countries over them.
5. Vaccination camouflages the real socio-political problems of poverty of some due to exploitation by others, and results in techno-scientific pseudo-solutions that are so complicated and vaccination diverts funds which should be used to help improve living conditions, and channels them into the banks of the multinationals. It is so sophisticated that patients cannot understand. In addition, the gap widens between the dominant rich and the exploited poor.
6. Vaccination decimates populations. Drastically in Third World countries. Chronically in industrialized countries. In this regard, Robert McNamara, the former President of the World Bank, former Secretary of State in the United States, who ordered massive bombing of Vietnam, and a member of the Expanded Program on Immunization, made some very interesting remarks. As reported by a French publication, j''ai tout compris", he was quoted as stating: "One must take draconian measures of demographic reduction against the will of the populations. Reducing the birth rate has proved to be impossible or insufficient. One must therefore increase the mortality rate. How? By natural means. Famine and sickness." (Translation)
7. Vaccination enables the selection of populations to be decimated. It facilitates targeted genocide. It permits one to kill people of a certain race, a certain group, a certain country. And to leave others untouched. In the name of health and well-being, of course.

Take Africa, for example. We have witnessed the almost total disappearance of certain groups. Some 50% dead, estimate the most optimistic. Some 70% dead, according to the less optimistic. As if by chance, many were in the same region, such as Zaire, Uganda, the extreme south of the Sudan. In 1967, at Marburg in Germany, seven researchers, working with green African monkeys, died of an unknown hemorrhagic fever.
In 1969, also by chance, the same sickness killed one thousand people in Uganda. In 1976, a new unknown hemorrhagic fever killed in the south of Sudan. Then in Zaire. It is noteworthy that since l968, virologists (virus specialists) have installed their sophisticated equipment in certain hospitals in Zaire. At a CIA hearing, Dr. Gotlieb, a cancerologist, admitted having dispersed, in 1960, a large quantity of viruses in the Congo River (in Zaire) to pollute it and contaminate all the people who used the river as their source of water. Dr. Gotlieb was named to head up the National Cancer Institute!
A couple of years ago, Reuters reported: 'An illness similar to AIDS has killed 60,000 in the south of Sudan. They call the illness, the killer. Families, whole villages, have disappeared. This illness, the Kalaazar, takes the form of a fever and loss of weight. The symptoms are the same as those of AIDS. The immune system is deficient and one dies of other infections." It is obvious that Africa, particularly those countries in the center and to the south, contain fabulous resources that have always incited westerners to crush their inhabitants to take over their riches. And beware anyone who stands in their way. The colonies have disappeared. But not colonialism.
8. Vaccination serves as a form of experimentation, to test new products on a great sampling of a population. Under the guise of health and the well-being of the population, people are vaccinated against a pseudo-epidemic with products that one wants to study. The vaccine of hepatitis B seems to be the choice of authorities to accomplish this goal. Yet, this vaccine is manufactured by a process of genetic manipulation. And it is much more dangerous than the traditional vaccine because it inoculates into the body cells that are foreign to its genetic code. Moreover; this vaccine is produced from virus cultivated on the ovaries of Chinese hamsters. One can only imagine what future generations will look like! But there is more. It is also reported to cause cancer of the liver. Despite all that, it enjoys great popularity among the authorities, who impose it first on all those who work in the health field, and then on the rest of the population.

In 1986, the medical authorities administered the vaccine against hepatitis B to Native Indian children in Alaska, without any explanation or the consent of their parents. Many children fell ill. And several died. It seems there was a virus called RSV (Rous Sarcoma Virus) in the vaccine. American Indian tribes have been subjected to many vaccinations. Let us be aware that they are difficult to beat into submission, and they own vast tracts of land which the authorities would like to have for their own benefit.
Recently when I met a group of Native women to chat about health with them, the subject of vaccinations cropped up. I was giving them some information on the topic when, suddenly, the group's nurse confided in me that the federal government had given her complete freedom in the management of their health, but on one strict condition. That every vaccination had to be scrupulously applied to all. The silence was deafening. We all understood.
In 1988, the Ambassador of Senegal gave a radio interview reporting on the ravages of AIDS in his country where entire villages were being decimated. A few years earlier, scientific and medical teams had come to vaccinate their inhabitants against hepatitis B.
In 1978, a new vaccine was tested on homosexuals in New York.
And in 1980, on those in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and St Louis. Officially, this "new vaccine" was against hepatitis B and, as we now know, it caused many of them to die from AIDS. It sounded the "official" beginning of the AIDS epidemic in 1981. The vaccination program of homosexuals against hepatitis B was led by Saint W.H.O. and the National Institute of Health.
There are reports of collaboration between these two organizations in 1970 to study the consequences of certain viruses and bacteria introduced to children during vaccination campaigns.
In 1972, they transformed this study to focus on the viruses which provoked a drop in the immune mechanism. Wolf Szmuness directed the anti-hepatitis B experiments undertaken in New York. He had very close links with the Blood Center where he had his laboratory, the National Institute of Health, the National Cancer Institute, the FDA., the W.H.O., and the Schools of Public Health of Cornell, Yale, and Harvard. In 1994 a vast vaccination campaign against hepatitis B was undertaken in Canada. It is both useless, dangerous and costly. And what for? Is there a hidden agenda? I note that the Province of Quebec is a particular target, over the course of three years.

I was there in 1993. It troubled me to see that it was aimed at a whole generation (1 to 20 years), in only one province. Since when do viruses respect borders, and specially provincial ones at that? The facts are:
There was no epidemic, nor risk of one. Epidemiologists confirmed it. Three different vaccines were administered, each in a designated area.
Certain nurses were selected and trained to administer a special vaccine. All children were entered into a computerized data bank.
The pressure to vaccinate the children was enormous:
Schools were turned into clinics. Those who did not want to be vaccinated were pointed out and treated as social outcasts. Nurses chased down parents at home who did not want their children vaccinated. I had a direct account of one of these kids. The mother did not want her child vaccinated. The nurse who came to the house made her believe that it was compulsory. The mother gave in...the child is now handicapped: physically and mentally (paralyzed spastic).
The vaccination cost $30 million. Why was there such a murderous will? Like Native peoples, the people of Quebec are also a "bother". They believe in their cultural identity and in sovereignty. What is more, Quebec with its Native territories, encompasses huge reservoirs of water which many a multinational have their eyes on. As an acquaintance of mine who sits on the California water management board said, "Water today is gold." Could one think of a more appropriate biological weapon to possibly remove any impediments to accessing that resource?
9. Vaccinations permit epidemiological studies of populations to collect data on the resistance of different ethnic groups to different illnesses. It permits one to study the reactions of the immune systems of large numbers of the population to an antigen (virus, microbe) injected by vaccination. Should it be within the framework of the fight against an existing illness, or one that has been provoked. In 1987, certain American laboratories and the Department of Biotechnology of India signed an agreement authorizing the testing of genetically manufactured vaccines on the people of India. This agreement was met with fierce opposition because it gave access to epidemiological and immunity profiles of a population. This data is extremely important from a military standpoint. It is even more valuable because India has never experienced yellow fever. And, at time of writing this book, it had known only a handful of cases of AIDS. Over and above all that, the private American laboratories proposed to test products on the Indian population for which they had no right to test in the United States! And the Indian authorities acquiesced!
10. Vaccination is a biological weapon at the service of biological warfare. It permits the targeting of people of a certain race, and leaves the others who are close by more or less untouched. It makes it possible to intervene in the hereditary lineage of anyone selected. A new speciality is born. Genetic engineering. It is flourishing, enjoys much prestige, and is receiving substantial research hinds. The challenge is staggering. To find a vaccine which gives an illness against which we already have the vaccine! In this way, we would be able to send in troops who have already been vaccinated against the killer vaccine, which they would then spread among the enemy. It is absolutely crazy and insane! Meanwhile, industrial theft is in full swing. Captain and biologist of the US Navy at Fort Detrick, Neil Levitt, reported the disappearance of 2.35 liters of an experimental vaccine. A dose sufficient to contaminate the entire world. Fort Detrick is a research laboratory which manufactures vaccines. It is located quite close to Washington, in Maryland, and it is attached to the National Cancer Institute at Bethesda, a suburb of the capital. It is hardly astonishing that, in every major vaccination campaign, one finds the same tangled web. Government, the military, Saint W.H.O., financiers, researchers, laboratories, universities, the CIA, and the World Bank. Let us not lose sight of the fact that: In the name of the defense of our countries, we manufacture the most murderous of weapons. War; whether it be biological or not, is war. And weapons kill. Biological warfare is a giant business, largely financed BY OUR FUNDS, through the medium of the military, research, and our donations. It is also financed, and without our knowledge, BY OUR LIVES. Those of our children and of millions of innocents who have been sacrificed.
It is we, those who live in the Western world, who are responsible for all the illnesses and acts of genocide in the world. By our acceptance of vaccinations, both at home and abroad.

O Governo de Harper aprova, irresponsavelmente, a vacina HPV, que provoca efeitos secundários terríveis em raparigas novas, incluindo o cancro.

O governo minoritário Conservador do Primeiro-Ministro canadiano Stephen Harper decidiu, recentemente, gastar $300 milhões de dólares numa campanha para vacinar raparigas dos 9 aos 13 anos contra o cancro do colo do útero. Não será uma medida fantástica tomada pelo governo para resolver um dos problemas mais cruciais de Saúde? O problema é que a decisão parece ser motivada para apoiar, financeiramente, os interesses farmacêuticos do mega comércio dos EUA que desenvolveu a vacina. No Hamilton Spectator, de 26 de Setembro de 2007, Katheleen O’Hara referiu-se ao programa de vacinação como um esforço para criar mais “cobaias” para uma vacina que causa muitos e graves problemas de saúde.
Quatro províncias do Canadá, Ontário, Nova Escócia, Terra Nova, Labrador e a Ilha Prince Edward, aderiram à última hora tornando a relativamente nova vacina Gardasil, da Merck Frosst, disponível para certas idades, através de programas de vacinação. Outros governos provinciais estão a debater o assunto, juntamente com os territórios.
Houve oito mortes documentadas ligadas à vacina contra o cancro cervical.
Os médicos suspeitam que a vacina – que protege contra o papiloma do vírus humano que causa o cancro e é transmitido sexualmente – pode estar implicada nas 3.461 reacções adversas documentadas, que incluem paralisias e ataques epilépticos.
O National Vaccine Information Center, NVIC, (Centro Nacional de Informação sobre Vacinas) sedeado nos EUA, publicou, em Fevereiro de 2007, uma nova análise do U.S. Federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, VAERS, (Sistema Federal de Informação sobre Reacções Adversas a Vacinas dos EUA) sobre os graves problemas de saúde que surgiram após vacinações HPV (com o Gardasil da Merck), durante os últimos 6 meses de 2006. Entre os 385 relatórios sobre reacções adversas ao Gardasil, comunicados ao VAERS, dois terços precisaram de cuidados médicos adicionais e cerca de uma terça parte de todos os relatórios referiam-se a crianças até aos 16 anos, das quais cerca de 25% receberam, em simultâneo, uma ou mais vacinas das 18 que a Merck não estudou em combinação com o Gardasil. O NVIC está a alertar o FDA e o CDC para que avisem os pais e os médicos que o Gardasil não deve ser combinado com outras vacinas e que as jovens devem ser vigiadas durante, pelo menos, 24 horas após a toma para ver se surgem episódios de síncope (desmaios) que podem ser acompanhados por ataques epilépticos, sintomas de formigueiro, dormência e perda de sensibilidade nos dedos e nos membros, algo que deverá ser transmitido de imediato ao VAERS.
Segundo o NVIC, a maioria das reacções adversas ao Gardasil, comunicadas ao VAERS, envolvia febre, náuseas, dores de cabeça e dores em geral; 14% eram episódios de síncope com ou sem sinais neurológicos; 8% tiveram sensações de formigueiro, dormência, perda de sensibilidade no corpo, paralisia facial e síndrome de Gauillain-Barré. Embora os relatórios sobre as reacções adversas, enviados ao VAERS, não provem a causalidade, podem fornecer um sinal de alerta precoce a indicar que a nova vacina pode estar a provocar problemas de saúde possivelmente graves. O NVIC também descobriu que havia vários relatórios do VAERS sobre o surgimento de infecções HPV, verrugas genitais e lesões cervicais após a toma de Gardasil. Ignora-se se as jovens foram infectadas antes de serem vacinadas, ou se o Gardasil não as protegeu. Um dos casos de infecção HPV ocorreu numa rapariga de 22 anos que participara numa experiência com o Gardasil da Merck, em 2003, onde demonstrou «uma forte conversão aos 4 tipos de vacina», mas «cujo teste provou ser HPV positivo, de alto risco», em 2006, segundo o relatório do VAERS.
Uma cientista, que passou 20 anos a desenvolver a vacina contra o papiloma do vírus humano, também diz que a vacina do HPV não é para raparigas novas, e que é um “disparate” os governos estarem a destiná-la a elas.
Ela afirma ainda que a vacina não foi testada quanto ao efeito que produz em raparigas novas e que administrar a vacina a raparigas de 9 anos pode não protegê-las de todo. No pior dos casos, em vez de reduzir o número de casos de cancro do colo do útero, no espaço de 25 anos, uma tal cruzada de vacinações poderá fazer este número subir.
«Administrá-la a crianças de 11 anos é uma grande experiência de saúde pública», disse Diane M. Harper, cientista, médica, catedrática e directora do Gynecologic Cancer Prevention Research Group, (Grupo de Pesquisa da Prevenção do Cancro Ginecológico), no Norris Cotton Cancer Center, em Dartmouth Medical School, em New Hampshire. «É um disparate mandar vacinar raparigas de 11 e 12 anos. E há falta de provas concretas, quanto aos efeitos secundários para se saber se a vacina é segurança.»
Um observador do governo dos EUA ficou preocupado ao notar que a Merck estava a fazer grandes doações a políticos chave. Um pedido de liberdade de informação, pelo grupo, em Maio deste ano, revelou que, desde 8 de Junho de 2006, quando as vacinas foram aprovadas pelo FDA dos EUA, até Maio de 2007, o FDA recebeu relatórios de 1.637 casos de reacções adversas à vacina HPV.
O Toronto Star informou recentemente que a Merck Frosst Canada Lda. contratou o Hill & Knowlton, um gigante das Relações Públicas, para promoverem as estratégias de imunização usando lobbyistas bem relacionados como Ken Boessenkool, antigo conselheiro político do Primeiro-Ministro Stephen Harprer, Bob Lopinski, que fez parte do gabinete de Dalton McGuinty, e Jason Grier, antigo chefe do estado-maior do Ministro da Saúde Geroge Smitherman.
O Governo Conservador de Harper aprovou a vacina HPV Gardasil da Merck, em Julho, e mais tarde anunciou um programa de 300 milhões de dólares para administrar a vacina em raparigas dos 9 aos 13 anos. Isto, evidentemente, é apenas o princípio do que a Merck provavelmente espera que seja um programa de vacinação de todas as mulheres potencialmente activas sexualmente, no Canadá, que ainda não estão infectadas pelo HPV. Em Agosto, os Liberais de McGuinty, de Ontário, mediante os conselhos do Ministro da Saúde George Smitherman, anunciaram que todas as raparigas da 8ª classe terão acesso gratuito ao Gardasil.

Vacina potencialmente perigosa para a saúde
A vacina “Pandemrix” que está a ser administrada em Portugal foi recusada nos EUA.
Esta noticia apareceu hoje em todos os noticiários nacionais mas assim meio disfarçada, na segunda parte ou a meio de duas noticias que não interessam a ninguém.
Segundo as autoridades norte-americanas, esta vacina contem escaleno e triomersal, duas substancias que alegadamente provocam alterações no sistema imunitário.
Por cá, o Infarmed garante ter sido “estabelecida a relação benefício-risco” e que “o benefício foi considerado superior ao risco” pela Agência Europeia do Medicamento, que a aprovou para uso em todos os Estados-membros. Ou seja 51% de beneficios vencem 49% de probabilidade de patologias graves.
O esqualeno é um composto químico que o nosso corpo produz e é vendido em lojas de produtos naturais como óleo de tubarão. É assim como a OMS mostra o “inofensivo” esqualeno. O que ela não esclarece é que ingerir o esqualeno é incomparável a injetá-lo. É quase como injectar um pouco de ácido estomacal. É um ácido super forte, o qual nós não podemos viver sem, mas se isto se soubesse, de certeza que as pessoas não iriam querer que alguém injectasse este ácido no próprio braço. Já na Guerra do Golfo, vários veteranos foram vacinados contra o vírus Anthrax, que continha esqualeno. Isto causou a Síndrome da Guerra do Golfo, que devastou as vidas de muitas vítimas, causando linfadenopatia, artrite rematóide, danos ao sistema nervoso, fadiga crónica, fibromialgia, lúpus, lesões na pele que não cicatrizam, perda de memória, convulsões, Síndrome de Sjögren, Doença de Raynaud, dores de cabeca crónicas, esclerose múltipla, entre outros problemas.
E o triomersal ou por outras palavras, Metil-Mercúrio. Sim, o mesmo mercúrio que se descobriu ser bastante tóxico, inclusivé deixou de se vender termómetros de mercúrio e deixou de se usar as amálgamas para “chumbar” os dentes, devido a este composto ser altamente tóxico para o organismo. Esta vacina contém pelo menos 5 vezes mais do recomendado e pode provocar, entre outros, distúrbios emocionais e/ou neurológicos graves, autismo e a famosa Síndrome de Guillain-Barré – uma doença auto-imune em que o nosso organismo produz anticorpos contra a nossa própria mielina.

• Uma jovem na França, foi diagnosticada com a doença incapacitante de Guillain-Barré (GBS), após uma vacina contra a gripe suína, na sequência de relatórios de ontem sobre um adolescente que na Virgínia foi igualmente atingido pela doença horas após receber a vacina H1N1.
A mulher, identificada apenas como uma trabalhadora de saúde, foi diagnosticado com GBS seis dias depois ela recebeu a vacina contra a gripe suína, de acordo com o Ministério da Saúde francês.
Ministra da Saúde, Roselyne Bachelot, disse que o caso foi diagnosticado e que a mulher estava se recuperando.
"Notícias de que a vacina aparentemente trás doença relacionada é susceptível de diminuir o entusiasmo aqui para se vacinar contra a gripe suína", informou a Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
A França tem estado no centro de uma Europa de resistência ampla para obter a vacina contra a gripe suína, depois que as autoridades inicialmente anunciaram sua intenção de vacinar toda a população. O ultraje atingiu na Europa central após a revelação de que a chanceler alemã Angela Merkel, e os ministros do governo, bem como as forças armadas lá, receberam um aditivo especial vacina H1N1 livre, que não contêm ingredientes como o mercúrio e esqualeno que foram incluídas para o público em geral, menos para as autoridades governamentais.
O programa de vacinação contra gripe suína na França já começou mal mesmo, com o chamado os indivíduos de "alto risco" começaram a receber a vacina a partir de ontem. Os relatórios de efeitos colaterais tão cedo não fará nada para mudar a opinião de 83 por cento do público francês, que indicou uma pesquisa no Le Monde que eles não iriam tomar a vacina.
55 por cento indicaram que iriam levar o tiro, em setembro, mas esse número já caiu para apenas 17 por cento, em parte influenciada por valores atenção da mídia sobre o caso de nove indivíduos que apresentaram acusações formais, os tribunais franceses, alegando que a campanha de vacinação em massa é uma tentativa deliberada para envenenar a população francesa.
A queda dos números dos que estão dispostos a tomar a vacina é visivel na Alemanha, onde apenas 13% agora dizem que estão dispostos a levar a vacina, abaixo dos 51% em julho.
Resistência similar a tomar a vacina é generalizado em todo o continente, da Escandinávia para a Bulgária para a Holanda, há pouco mais de um país da Europa onde a maioria da população têm indicado que não vão tomar a vacina e, na maioria dos países, a maioria indicou que eles não vão ficar inoculados devido a temores de efeitos colaterais.
Como informamos ontem, um atleta da High School de Virgínia foi diagnosticado com Síndrome de Guillain-Barré horas depois de receber uma vacina contra a gripe suína, mas as autoridades de saúde estão tentando fechar a conexão como uma coincidência, exatamente como eles resolveram fazer muito antes do programa de vacinação contra H1N1 começar mesmo.

Mercury, vaccines, autism and your child's health
You have probably seen your nurse insert a syringe into a large vial, extract some liquid, and then leave a substantial amount of vaccine in the original container. If you've witnessed this seemingly benign procedure, you've seen how vaccine manufacturers are saving money at the expense of public health. In order to store larger amounts of vaccine at a lower cost, companies began offering "multi-dose units" while adding preservatives to prevent contaminations. That way doctors can open and close a vaccine container, inviting germs into the once-sterile solution, while assuring the public that those contaminants are quickly killed by the preservative.
Sound familiar? It's the same story of corporate America's love affair with preservatives. It saves them money, while posing an undue risk to your health. But like many toxic preservatives found in food, a vaccine preservative kills more than just bacteria and fungi; it can lead to extensive neurological damage in your children, and has even been implicated in autism.
Thimerosal
Thimerosal is the preservative of choice for vaccine manufacturers. First introduced by Eli Lilly and Company in the late 1920s and early 1930s, the company began selling it as a preservative in vaccines in the 1940s. Thimerosal contains 49.6 percent mercury by weight and is metabolized or degraded into ethylmercury and thiosalicylate. Mercury, or more precisely, ethylmercury, is the principle agent that kills contaminants. Unfortunately, mercury also kills much more than that.
The Department of Defense classifies mercury as a hazardous material that could cause death if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Studies indicate that mercury tends to accumulate in the brains of primates and other animals after they are injected with vaccines. Mercury poisoning has been linked to cardiovascular disease, autism, seizures, mental retardation, hyperactivity, dyslexia and many other nervous system conditions. That's why the FDA rigorously limits exposure to mercury in foods and drugs. Some common sources of mercury include dental amalgam fillings, various vaccines and certain fish contaminated by polluted ocean waters.
The toxicity of mercury has never been in question. The real question is precisely how much mercury-laced thimerosal is toxic, and what are the possible consequences for our children at low doses?
Eli Lilly and Co. supposedly answered this question for us back in 1930. Concluding thimerosal to be of "a very low order of toxicity . . . for man," the company hired its own doctors to perform thimerosal experiments in Indianapolis City Hospital on meningitis patients during a severe outbreak in 1929. This 60-year-old evidence was still quoted on the company's brochures as recently as 1990. Andrew Waters, who is involved in a lawsuit against Eli Lilly, claims that most critical studies on the toxicity of thimerosal were suppressed by the company until now.
Banned around the world, but not in the United States
That might explain why thimerosal was eliminated in many countries 20 years ago. In 1977, a Russian study found that adults exposed to ethylmercury, the form of mercury in thimerosal, suffered brain damage years later. Studies on thimerosal poisoning also describe tubular necrosis and nervous system injury, including obtundation, coma and death. As a result of these findings, Russia banned thimerosal from children's vaccines in 1980. Denmark, Austria, Japan, Great Britain and all the Scandinavian countries have also banned the preservative.
Eli Lilly stuck to its "scientific" facts, but the truth began slipping between the cracks in 1999. After the number of immunizations rose to 12 to 15 per child, the public finally became privy to the possible dangers of thimerosal. One 1999 study revealed that some infants, due to a genetic or developmental factor, lack the ability to eliminate mercury. Trace amounts of mercury in these infants, when accumulated over several vaccines, could pose a severe health risk. Some vaccines, such as vaccines for hepatitis B, contained as much as 12.5 micrograms of mercury per dose. That's more than 100 times the EPA's upper limit standard when administered to infants.
Hepatitis B vaccines aren't the only immunizations under suspicion. According to Burton Goldberg in Alternative Medicine, scientists are finding stronger and stronger links between thimerosal and neurological damage. One report by Dr. Vijendra Singh of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan found a higher incidence of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR) antibodies in autistic children.
The National Vaccine Information Center in Vienna, Virginia, has noted a strong association between the MMR vaccine and autistic features. Reporting similar findings, the Encephalitis Support Group in England claims that children who became autistic after the MMR vaccine started showing autistic symptoms as early as 30 days after vaccination. The diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine (DPT) given at two, four and six months has triggered autistic symptoms, as well.
When the FDA finally formally released this information in 1999, the news came too little too late for some parents. The damage had already been done.
Links between autism and thimerosal
Autism affects 500,000 to 1.5 million Americans and has grown at an annual rate of 10 to 17 percent since the late 1980s. California found a 273 percent increase in autism between 1987 and 1998. Maryland reported a 513 percent increase in autism between 1993 and 1998 and several dozen other states reported similar findings. Some scientists say the estimated number of cases of autism has increased 15-fold –1,500 percent – since 1991, when the number of childhood vaccinations doubled. Whereas one in every 2,500 children was diagnosed with autism before 1991, one in 166 children now have the disease.
This increase in reported autism cases eerily parallels the increase in the number and frequency of thimerosal-containing vaccinations administered to infants. As of today, children are given as many as 21 immunizations in the first 15 months of life. After a number of scientists and concerned activists noticed the correlation, an investigation was launched to get to the heart of the matter.
Statistical evidence links thimerosal with nervous system disorders
In June 2000, federal officials and industry representatives were assembled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to discuss the disturbing evidence. According to Tom Verstraeten, an epidemiologist who had analyzed the data on the CDC's database, thimerosal appeared to be responsible for a dramatic increase in autism and other neurological disorders. Verstraeten told those at the meeting that a number of earlier studies indicate a link between thimerosal and speech delays, attention-deficit disorder, hyperactivity and autism.
Verstraeten offered no possible cause for this correlation, but held that the statistical evidence linking vaccines and neurological disorders was strong. Dr. Bill Weil, a consultant for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Dr. Richard Johnston, an immunologist and pediatrician from the University of Colorado, presented similar concerns to the group. However, given no causal relationship, the CDC and industry representatives were quick to discredit the evidence.
Consequently, the CDC paid the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to conduct another study on thimerosal. According to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., this study was fixed in order to "whitewash" previous findings. In its 2001 report, the IOM's Immunization Safety Review Committee did conclude that the link between thimerosal and neurodevelopmental disorders was biologically plausible, though the evidence neither proved nor negated it. The Committee stated that phasing out thimerosal from vaccines was “a prudent measure in support of the public health goal to reduce mercury exposure of infants and children as much as possible.” However, these findings offered no imperative. The data presented at the 2000 meeting was withheld from publication and the link between thimerosal and autism remained "inconclusive."
But what does "inconclusive" mean? Well, that depends on who you talk to. According to the FDA, these "inconclusive" findings negate the risk of a causal relationship between thimerosal and autism. Even Tom Verstraeten, one of the presenters of epidemiological evidence at the CDC meeting, seemingly changed his tune a bit. In 2000, Verstraeten vigorously campaigned against thimerosal based upon his "inconclusive" correlation, but after he was hired by GlaxoSmithKline, the doctor changed his position. The same evidence from 2000, in Verstraeten's eyes, became "neutral" in 2003. After criticism for this apparent flip-flop, Verstaeten wrote a letter to the editor of Pediatrics in 2004 backing the CDC's actions and his own research methods.
Merck continues selling vaccines with thimerosal
Without an imperative to eradicate thimerosal immediately, vaccine manufacturers like Merck & Co. seemingly took their time in reducing thimerosal levels in vaccines. After a large public outcry in 1999, Merck & Co. began decreasing or eliminating the amount of thimerosal in its vaccines. In September 1999, Merck announced that its new line of vaccines were preservative-free, but still continued to distribute the remainder of thimerosal-preserved vaccines until 2001. Only after a congressional inquiry in 2002 did they stop distributing their stockpile. Rep. Dave Weldon, R-Fla., called Merck's actions "misleading."
While officials at the Center for Disease Control claim evidence is lacking to support the possible risks of thimerosal, Dr. Mark Geier, a Maryland geneticist and vaccinologist, along with his son and research partner David Geier, says the CDC has chosen to ignore the science. According to Dr. Geier, more than 5,000 articles have been published that question the safety of thimerosal in vaccines.
The Geiers analyzed the data and determined that the more thimerosal a child receives, the greater his or her chances are of being autistic. The CDC says the Geiers misused information from a CDC database that was not intended to help prove theories. Given no real causal mechanism linking thimerosal and autism, the game seems to have become one of slanting the data to suit the needs of government and industrial interests. Even Verstraeten has admitted that these "inconclusive" findings certainly don't rule out the possibility of finding a link in the future.
Grassroots action against vaccine manufacturers
Given the dearth of health organizations owning up to the dangers of thimerosal, many parents followed their gut instincts and took legal action against vaccine manufacturers. More than 4,200 families have filed lawsuits claiming thimerosal caused injuries to their children. These lawsuits often have two goals: First, to seek reparations for the loss of consortium (basically meaning that an autistic child creates emotional and psychological burdens on their family life), and second, to ensure that these companies exercise more concern for public health and less concern for their own bottom line.
The lawsuits are slow in producing results. The first constraint on these lawsuits is the National Childhood Vaccine Act of 1986. This act stipulates that victims cannot seek redress in the courts without first filing a claim for recovery in the federal Vaccine Court. The statute of limitations for this is within three years of "the first symptom or manifestation of onset or of the significant aggravation of a [vaccine-related] injury."
In the cases of many thimerosal victims, the link between autism and vaccines didn't appear until six years after the first vaccine was administered. While this statute has stopped some claims against vaccine manufacturers, including such big firms as Aventis, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck and Johnson & Johnson, many judges are now allowing suits against Eli Lilly, the maker of thimerosal, to stand. While the Vaccine Act shields vaccine manufacturers, one judge reasons that the legislation does not protect the production of thimerosal because it is a "component."
The burden of proof in court is also extremely problematic for most of these suits. Given the supposed lack of scientific data, lawyers are hard-pressed to prove the link between thimerosal and autism. In what seems like an underhanded move, the CDC sold its data to a private company, ensuring that lawyers could not access it under the Freedom of Information Act.
In the past five years, Congress has also aided vaccine manufacturers, supposedly for "security" reasons. In 2002, a mysterious piggyback on the 2002 Homeland Security bill freed drug companies of liability in lawsuits regarding thimerosal. Called the "Eli Lilly Protection Act" by outraged parents and activists, the then-House Majority Leader Dick Armey told CBS News he snuck the amendment in to keep vaccine-makers from going out of business. Armey claimed it was a matter of national security. "We need their vaccines if the country is attacked with germ weapons."
Ironically, foreign biological terrorism hasn't been a big problem for American citizens, but those whose lives (and the lives of their children) have been affected if not ruined by the harmful effects of thimerisol would undoubtedly say these potentially harmful vaccines are indeed a problem. Armey's piggyback bill was repealed in 2003, but that didn't stop lawmakers from continuing to protect the vaccine industry.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is no stranger to the thimerosal debate, having received $873,000 in contributions from the pharmaceutical industry and $10,000 from Eli Lilly. Frist's position allowed him to attempt to help the industry from the inside, according to Kennedy. Kennedy reports that on five occasions, Frist tried to seal the government's vaccine-related documents and shield Eli Lilly from subpoenas. Frist also introduced a provision in the 2005 Senate Bill S-3 called the "Protecting America in the War on Terror Act," that would effectively insulate the pharmaceutical industry from liability for thimerosal poisoning. Pharmaceutical manufacturers, including Merck, GlaxoSmithKline, Aventis, Weyeth and Eli Lilly, can basically get off scot-free for their actions, even as more and more evidence suggests that top company officials were aware of the possible dangers and did nothing.
A secret memo leaked to the Los Angeles Times reportedly implicates one vaccine manufacturer, Merck & Co., for knowing that thimerosal could pose serious threats to infants. Allegedly, Dr. Maurice Hilleman, one of Merck's top scientists, warned the president of Merck of a possible threat as early as 1991. Dr. Hilleman told executives that six-month-old children receiving regular immunizations frequently received mercury doses 87 times higher than guidelines for the maximum consumption of mercury. Given today's more prudent mercury standards, those thimerosal doses would be 400 times that of safe levels. Dr. Hilleman recommended in the memo that thimerosal be discontinued.
Not only do government and industry officials seem to be trying to downplay the possible harms of thimerosal; the media is also denying the issue coverage. Just recently, ABC flip-flopped on whether it will air interviews with Robert Kennedy Jr., a leading critic of thimerosal. ABC has been accused of suppressing the interviews because of its ties to the pharmaceutical industry.
The thimerosal debate continues
Along with the enormous amount of controversy surrounding this issue, the five-year-old plea for "more research" may have finally produced some results. Burton Goldberg notes that a defect in the myelinization process (insulation of nerve fibers) could explain mercury's propensity to cause autism and neurological damage. This may also account for the frequent development of epilepsy in older autistic children.
Scientists are also working on biological links that support the strong correlations. Researchers at Northeastern University, working with scientists from the University of Nebraska, Tufts and Johns Hopkins University, may have recently found the mechanism by which thimerosal interferes with brain activity. If these researchers are right, vaccine manufacturers could do little to keep the damaging effects of thimerosal hidden.
Pharmacy professor Richard Deth and colleagues found that exposure to thimerosal potently interrupts growth factor signaling, causing adverse effects on the transfer of carbon atoms. These carbon atoms play a significant role in regulating normal DNA function and gene expression and are critical to proper neurological development. Additionally, the scientists recently obtained more insight into the mechanism by which thimerosal interferes with folate-dependent methylation. The mechanism inhibits the biosynthesis of the active form of vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), a vitamin now being administered to autistic children.
The experts speak on mercury, vaccines and thimerosal
Now all childhood vaccines have at least one mercury-free version, and I urge parents to ask for those versions if they choose to vaccinate their children. Injecting mercury into children, especially infants whose immune systems are still underdeveloped (hepatitis B shots are typically given at birth, before the immune system has developed), can be an assault to the immune system.

We know that certain forms of mercury, such as methylmercury and phenylmercury, are highly lipid soluble, which makes the brain especially susceptible to mercury accumulation. One theory is that, in very rare cases, a child's immune system could be weakened by the measles-mumps-rubella vaccination (MMR), which is usually administered before a child turns 2. As a result of this weakening, the theory goes, the child's digestive system is unable to break down certain food proteins, leading to abnormal brain development. Proponents of this theory believe that putting the child on a diet that eliminates certain foods, such as wheat and dairy products, could in certain cases reverse the course of the disease.
